Memories… The first step in my photographic journey…
Written by: Tiffany Joyce
Hello beautiful people! I have a question for you. Do you remember the first picture you took? The first vacation you went on with your own camera? The first photo trip with fellow shutterbugs? Tell tell..
I was rummaging through my old desk drawer and I came across a photo album. Inside that photo album, were memories… Memories of my very first photography trip, which was part of the very first (and only) photography workshop that I took part in… Memories of my very first camera – a 28mm film camera which looked like a toy… In fact, I remember the guy who was taking the workshop telling me that we needed to use a real camera for the workshop. And I very nicely flashed him temporarily blind saying, “Sir, is this real enough? ”
He taught us how to handle a camera, how to focus, how to use filters, how to change films and then the basics of composition. I remember the pleasure that I got when I focused on my subject (who also happened to be very special during the focusing session. I still get the same pleasure when I’m able to look through the lens and isolate my subject from the surroundings, blurring out all the distractions.
Towards the end of the workshop, we went to a nearby village for a photo session, which was great fun. Our instructor then selected some of the best pictures, and the encouragement that I got when I saw 4 of my pictures up there still drives me at times!
One of the first pictures I took
That was way back in the 7th grade in school. But that was the first step of what was to be a very exciting journey for me. I’ve come a long way since then, and I’ve loved every moment of it. But of course, there’s still a long way to go, a lot to learn and a lot to look forward to. And thats what makes it all even more exciting.
Do you remember the first photo you took? Come on. Share your story with us! We would love to know
