Budget Lens Recommendation: Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4.5-5.6 IS

Continuing our recommendations for budget lenses, today we talk about budget telephoto lenses. Most ‘good’ telephotos out there today are VERY expensive. And there’s a reason for that too – they’re sharper, faster, focus better, and are built to last. But of course one needs at least a temporary solution till the time you get your hands on that 400mm IS or VR. And a surprisingly large number of people may find that the lenses below satisfy their needs absolutely and end up being permanent. So on then. Today’s recommendation is for Canon users (Nikon users and others don’t fret. We’ll get there too :) ).

Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4.5-5.6
When I first heard about this lens, I read about it, and decided to go blindly follow the opinion of one particular reviewer, who has very good reviews, and decided not to look into it further. But I did look into it further, at a later time, and discovered that ‘my trusted’ reviewer had been particularly harsh with this lens.
More research led me to the conclusion that this is the best bang-for-buck lens you’ll find for Canon SLRs. Why? Price tag of under $200 and pictures like these: Samples
Nothing better than images to tell you about the quality of a lens. The images above clearly show what the lens is capable of. So you know that the lens is capable enough of giving some fantastic results, and most cameras today are too. So if anything, you need to work on your skill.

-CHEAP! Great value for money.
-Pretty good tele range.
-Surprisingly good images compared to the price. Sharp, and colourful.

-Not built for rugged use, or as some like to put it – Cheap build.
-Not as fast as one would like, but then fast lenses are not as cheap as one would like either.
-Not suitable for indoor shooting.

This is not L glass. Don’t expect it to be. But it is definitely the BEST VALUE FOR MONEY Telephoto available for Canon. L, after all, is a luxury :) .

Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4.5-5.6 – HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
